Apple has revolutionized the mobile phone industry with the introduction of iPhone in 2007. This year, the top tech company seeks to shake the “thin and light” category of flagships with the launch of iPhone 17 Air.

iPhone 17 Air is one of Apple’s flagship phones this year along with iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

The thinner model will use a silicon anode battery and eSIM configuration to balance slimness with endurance.

However, with thinner phone comes with several compromises. For instance, buyers would expect reduced battery capacity and trimmed down camera specifications, press release from Trend Force disclosed.

Initial shipments of the Air are expected to align with historical levels of the Plus series, though actual figures and projections could have discrepancies.

The new lineup would feature enhanced processor performance, thermal management, and imaging capabilities.

The iPhone 17 and Air are expected to feature the A19 processor, while the pro series will adopt the A19 Pro. DRAM capacity will be increased to 12GB on the Air, Pro, and Pro Max, and NAND Flash storage will start at 256GB for these models, up to 1TB.

Overall, the products are expected to have major camera upgrades, with the front camera moving from 12MP to 24MP and all rear cameras raised to 48MP.

A redesigned rectangular array and optimized software algorithms to enhance optical zoom and image resolution is exclusive to the Pro Models.

iPhone 17 is expected to keep the same price as iPhone 16 but other models would see increases of up to $100 to reflect the upgrades and enhancements.

The release of the Air is part of Apple’s broader strategy to diversity its product portfolio and capture a wider user base.

Next year, the company is rumored to release a foldable model, and other will reportedly launch sub-flagship models soon. Thus, bringing a richer, clearer segmented product matrix.
